Touch me – für Paul Celan
Paul Celan was born on 23 November 1920 in Czernowitz, in the Bukovina region of what was then Greater Romania. He took his own life in Paris in 1970.
I am delighted that Galerie Vayhinger in Singen will be showing my Celan cycle, entitled “Touch me – for Paul Celan”, as part of its “Bild & Wort” exhibition series.
In memory of Paul Celan, part of my cycle “Schon nicht mehr / Immer noch – Paul Celan” was exhibited at the Ohnesorge Gallery in Bremen in 2020 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth and the 50th anniversary of the death of this significant poet. Unfortunately, the gallery had to close the exhibition shortly after it opened due to the “strict COVID-19 lockdown”.
It was not until 2021 that the complete and expanded Celan cycle was shown by Dr. Ute Hübner at the Hesse Museum in Gaienhofen.
In 2023, the cycle formed part of the programme for the workshop “Celan in Contemporary Visual Art”, organised by the Free University of Berlin at the Literary Colloquium Berlin.
